In an unprecedented action, at the invitation of Pope Francis, representatives and leaders of all primary religions of the world gathered in the Vatican on Monday, October 4th, to consult with each other and exchange views with the world’s leading scientists to issue a practical statement on climate change issues. They asked the Pope to submit the statement, on behalf of all religions, to the political leaders attending the 26th UN Climate Change Conference, COP 26.

Ayatollah, Prof. Seyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies of the Academy, as a Shiite thinker, was invited and participated in this event. Following the endorsement of a joint statement of religions, Prof. Damad delivered a speech.

The COP 26 summit will be held in Glasgow, Scotland in November 2021. After the Paris Conference in 2016, which led to a global climate agreement, this conference will be the most important meeting of the world political leaders to act on climate problems.
