On Sunday October 31st, the Research Council of the Academy sat for its 208th meeting, presided by Prof. Ali Akbar Salehi, Vice-President for Research of the Academy. The attendees included the secretary of the Academy, chairmen of the scientific departments and a number of directors of the Academy.
At the beginning, Prof. Salehi referred to the studies carried out on the different issues and problems existing in the Academy and propounded some corrective measures in this regard. He also considered the views of the members and departments of the Academy on the proposed topics as facilitator and effective.
The meeting continued with Prof. Semnanian’s report prepared by the finance and budget sector of the Academy on how to allocate the current year budget and the next year budget proposal. He made some suggestions and stated that the participation of the departments of the Academy and offering plans and making suggestions for summarizing, compilation and submission to the Plan and Budget Organization are very important.
Afterwards, the participants thanked Prof. Salehi for convening the Research Council meeting and expressed their views on the proposed proposals by explaining various, important and strategic activities of the Academy. They also emphasized the need for more communication and joint and systematic collaboration between the Academy and other scientific and research centers, especially top policymakers and decision makers in the field of science, technology and culture. They asked Prof. Salehi and the Vice-Presidency of the Academy to lay the ground to draw the attention of the government to the wise and constructive views of the institutions such as the Academy.
Then, the importance of explaining the Academy’s expectations of its members was considered and it was decided to correspond with the chairmen of different departments in this regard.
At the end, the following topics were also discussed and decided upon in the meeting:
- Requesting the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to recruit a number of elites for postdoctoral courses
- Holding the honoring ceremony of Abu Reyhan Biruni Award for distinguished young researchers in Basic Sciences, selected by the Academy
- Holding the Academy’s Research Council meeting every month
- Assigning Prof. Semnanian to set up a committee in partnership with the representatives of the scientific departments in the Research Council
