Presided over by Prof. Davari Ardakani, the 505th meeting of the Scientific Council of the Academy was held semi-virtually on Sunday, December 19th. The attendees consisted of the heads of the scientific departments, vice president for research and deputy president, and secretary of the Foresight Council of the Academy.
Following the approval of the previous meeting's minutes, the following topics were decided upon in this meeting:
- Membership proposal of two associate fellows and the extension of the associate fellow membership of a number of professors proposed by the Department of Basic Sciences and the Department of Human Sciences of the Academy. These will be referred to the General Assembly for final approval;
- Collaboration of three guest scholars with the Department of Agricultural Sciences and seven guest scholars with the Department of Veterinary Sciences for a two-year term;
- Extension of the collaboration of two guest scholars with the Department of Veterinary Sciences and three guest scholars with the Department of Engineering for a further two-year term.
At the concluding part of the meeting, following the proposal of Prof. Eslami, it was decided that the Academy would pursue the awarding of "Scientific Award of the Academy of Sciences" (Medal of the Academy of Sciences) whose regulations have already been approved by the General Assembly of the Academy. It was also decided that a report on this issue be presented by the Office of the President of the Academy at the next meeting of the Scientific Council.
Prof. Salehi, also suggested that an award namely "Maryam Mirzakhani" be planned and awarded by the Academy. It was decided that the Division of Mathematics of the Academy would consider this matter and propose a plan to the Scientific Council.
