The Scientific Council of the Academy sat for its 509th semi-virtual meeting on Sunday, February 13th. Prof. Davari Ardakani presided over the meeting in which secretary, vice president for research and deputy president, the chairmen of the scientific departments, and the secretary of the Foresight Council of the Academy were present.  

 

At the beginning, Prof. Faraji Dana, the secretary of the academy, emphasized that the scientific departments should prepare and submit their meetings’ programs and activities in the next year.

 

Then, Prof. Sharifi Tehrani, chairman of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, presented a report on holding the Seventh Honoring Ceremony of the Outstanding Engineers in Agriculture and Natural Resources of the country, held on March 9th at the Academy. He considered the expression of important challenges related to the specialized fields of each of the chosen personalities as one of the advantages of this round of the event, which was turned into a scientific seminar as well.

 

The meeting continued with the proposal of the Department of Human Sciences for the collaboration of Prof. Mahmoud Mehrmohammadi, Professor of Tarbiat Modares University, as a guest scholar for a two-year term was presented and approved. Then the extension of the associate fellowship of a professor proposed by the Department of Engineering Sciences was approved. This will be passed to the General Assembly for final approval.

 

The topic of the "Scientific Award of the Academy of Sciences" was raised at the meeting. After exchanging views, it was decided to implement the regulations of this award, already approved by the General Assembly in 2007.

 

Also, the workgroup formed by Prof. Faraji Dana for the nomination of a professor to to be awarded the First Governmental Medal of Science, will be also responsible for the proposal of the selected professor to receive the Scientific Award of the Academy. The secretary of the academy should follow up and take action concerning the creation of "Academy Scientific Award Fund".

 

At the end of the meeting and after discussion and exchange of views, the necessity of establishing a "Publishing Council" in the Academy was emphasized and it was decided that this council be in line with the programs approved by the General Assembly and the Scientific Council. Chaired by the Vice-President for Research and with the presence of the editors of the Academy journals, the Council meetings should be convened regularly for "standardizing", "policy-making" and "organizing" the Academy's publications.
