Presided over by Prof. Davari Ardakani, the 129th meeting of the General Assembly of the Academy was held on Thursday, May 19th, in which 44 fellows out 54 were present.
Prof. Davari Ardakani, while welcoming the attendees and congratulating the new fellows of the Academy elected in the previous session of the Assembly, wished them success in serving science and collaboration with the Academy. The Academy’s Tablets of Fellowship were awarded to the new fellows by the president of the Academy.
Prof. Rasoul Jafarian, fellow of the Academy, referred to the topic of scientometrics in the country and its criteria and stated that it is appropriate for the Academy to have an appropriate and academic view on this important field. Prof. Faraji Dana, Secretary of the Academy, referring to the proposal of prof. Jafarian, stated that this topic was raised in the meeting of the Scientific Council of the Academy and will be on the agenda of the Academy with an appropriate mechanism soon.
Following the approval of the previous meeting's minutes, Prof. Toomanian, the new fellow of the Academy, referring to the structure and activities of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, presented a report on his participation in the recent meeting of the General Assembly of the above academy and stated that he had a meeting with the President of the mentioned academy in which he announced his readiness to cooperate with the Academy of Sciences of IR Iran. Prof. Toomanian continued his speech by presenting a report on some activities of the Divisions of Mathematics and Physics of the Academy in recent years, including addressing the issue of university entrance exams and postgraduate studies, Farhangian University, and the decline of mathematics and basic sciences in general in the country.
Afterwards, Prof. Amin Alizadeh was elected by secret ballot as the new fellow of the Academy.
Moreover, the following associate memberships were approved by secret ballot for a four-year term:
- Prof. Seyed Mohammad Reza Beheshti, from the Department of Human Sciences
- Prof. Massomeh Nasiri Kenari, Prof. Mahmood Nili Ahmadabadi, Prof. Mahmood Fotoohi Firoozabad, Prof. Mohammad Saleh Olia, Prof. Majid Safaraval, Prof. Ali Movaghar Rahimabadi, Prof. Manoochehr Vosooghi Shahvari and Prof. Ali Ghafari from the Department of Engineering Sciences
The meeting continued with the approval of the extension of the memberships of 12 associate fellows of the Academy for a further four-years.
The meeting was ended with Prof. Faraji Dana’s report on the activities and plans of the Academy in recent months.
