On Sunday, December 4th, the Scientific Council of the Academy sat for its 521st meeting. Prof. Reza Davari Ardakani chaired the meeting in which the secretary, vice president for research and deputy president and the chairmen of the scientific departments were present. 

 

At the beginning, Prof. Davari Ardakani welcomed the attendees and congratulated the selection of the two scientist members of the Academy, Prof. Mahmood Fotoohi Firoozabad and Prof. Mohammad Sal Moslehian, as TWAS Fellows and wished them more success in serving science and developing knowledge.

 

Then, the proposal of the associate membership of the three guest scholars of the Department of Basic Sciences of the Academy, which was approved by secret ballot after their introduction by Prof. Toomanian, was proposed and it was decided to be ratified in the next three consecutive meetings of the Academy General Assembly.

 

The meeting continued with the proposal of the Department of Engineering Sciences on the honorary membership of one of the prominent engineering scientists and also the associate membership of one of the guest scholars of the Department. After being introduced by Prof. Towfighi and exchange of opinions, the proposal was approved by secret ballot and it was placed on the agenda of the General Assembly for final ratification.

 

Afterwards, the proposal of the Department of Basic Sciences for the collaboration of three guest scholars for a two-year term was set forth and approved.

 

In another part of the meeting, the topic of presenting the report of the Academies to the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution and the proposal presented by the Administrative and Recruitment Organization regarding the statutes of the Academies were discussed.

 

Finally, with the approval of the president of the Academy, it was decided to form a committee consisting of the Academy members who are TWAS fellows, under the responsibility of Prof. Ali Akbar Moosavi Movahedi, to discuss and exchange of views on the fields of cooperation between the Academy and TWAS.
