Presided over by Prof. Ali Akbar Salehi, the Research Council of the Academy sat for its 220th meeting on Sunday, December 25th. The attendees were the representatives of the scientific departments including Prof. Avani, Department of Islamic Sciences, Prof. Sheikh Jabbari, Department of Basic Sciences, Prof.  Zohoor, Department of Engineering Sciences, Prof. Momeni, Department of Human Sciences and Prof. Semnanian.

 

At first, Prof. Semnanian presented a report on the research activities of the Academy of Sciences. He also mentioned some measures and activities of the Academy: the Scientific Council's decision to form the TWAS workgroup and holding the first preliminary meeting of the aforementioned workgroup and holding the main meeting to be attended by all the Iranian scientists who are the fellows of TWAS at the end of January, holding a meeting by the president of the Iranian Research Institute for Information Sciences and Technology (IranDoc) in the presence of the president and secretary of the Academy and a number of the chairmen of scientific departments, members and directors of the Academy and proposing to increase the interaction and cooperation of this scientific institute with the Academy, continuation of holding lectures and meetings of the think tanks and holding preliminary meetings of three workgroups on "Science and Technology Monitoring", "Knowledge Base Development " and "Emigration".

 

The Council approved the research project proposed by the Department of Basic Sciences on "Oral History of Contemporary Iranian Mathematics" and passed it to the Scientific Council for final approval. The Council also ratified the proposal of the Natural Hazards Think Tank to carry out a research project on "Analysis of Governance Process, Management and Operation of Dealing with Natural Disasters in Iran". It was decided to adopt an approach to carry out the project.

 

At the end of the meeting, the draft "Regulation of Research Activities and Study Projects" was discussed and approved. This was passed to the Scientific Council for final approval.
