On Sunday, February 12th, the Scientific Council of the Academy sat for its 523rd session. Prof. Reza Davari Ardakani chaired the meeting in which the secretary, vice president for research and deputy president, the chairmen of the scientific departments and the secretary of the Foresight Council of the Academy were present.
At the beginning, the principles of forming a think tank consisting of “Outstanding Engineers in Agriculture and Natural Resources of the country selected by the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the Academy” were approved. According to the bylaws for the formation of a think tank of the distinguished engineers selected by the Department of Engineering Sciences, the Department of Agricultural Sciences should also prepare a bylaw for the formation of this think tank and propose it to the Council.
Then, Prof. Abbas Sharifi Tehrani, the chairman of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, introduced six outstanding engineers in agriculture and natural resources of the country in 2023 to be honored in the Natural Resources Week. The nominees were approved after exchanging opinions. Prof. Sharifi Tehrani further stated that this year's ceremony would be held on Wednesday, March 1st.
Afterwards, the chairman of the Department of Engineering Sciences announced the holding of the Academy’s Honoring Ceremony on the Engineer’s Day on February 23rd as well as introducing and honoring the selected country's engineering in 2022 and 2023 in this ceremony. Meanwhile, he invited the members of the Council to participate in the ceremony.
The Council meeting continued with the approval of the following items:
- Collaboration of one guest scholar of the Department of Engineering Sciences in the Civil Engineering Division for a two-year term;
- Collaboration of one guest scholar of the Department of Basic Sciences in the Chemistry Division for a two-year term;
- Extension of the collaboration of two invited scholars in the Economics Division, two invited scholars in the Management Division and one invited scholar in the Linguistics Division with the Department of Human Sciences for a further two-year term;
- Proposal of the Department of Engineering Sciences for the associate membership of its proposed professor for a four-year term. This was approved by secret ballot and placed on the agenda of the General Assembly for final ratification.
Finally, the secretary of the Academy informed the members of the Council the proposed guideline "How to determine the maximum number of members of the Academy in scientific departments" for the proposal in the General Assembly. It was decided to initially send the guideline to the scientific departments to express their views.
