Presided over by Prof. Aref, the 18^th meeting of the Commission for the Advancement of Mathematics in the Country was held at the Academy on January 26.

At first, Prof. Ali Rejali presented a report on the specialized committee meetings of the Workgroup for Studies on the Status of Education in the Country. It was agreed to draw up a justification report on the macro problems of education and to invite the Minister of Education and his deputies to hear views of the Commission in the next meeting. Then Prof. Megerdich Toomanian delivered a report on the recent meeting of the workgroup with the acting president of Farhangian University and the challenges of the university.

Prof. Mehdi Behzad presented his own report on the establishment of the Union of the Societies of Sciences Related to Mathematics and the meetings they held. He stated that at the first stage, it was decided that the union should collect, translate and publish the school mathematics program of some developed countries and distribute it among math teachers. It was also proposed that the performance report of each math faculty member be published. This would create a healthy competition environment.

The meeting continued with presenting three reports: first meeting of the Workgroup of the National University Entrance Exam, Statistical System Plan and the Committee on School Mathematics.
