Prof. Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the accompanying delegation visited Prof. Reza Davari Ardakani and a number of the authorities of the Academy on Tuesday, February 7th.

At first, Prof. Myasnikovich thanked the host for receiving the Belarus delegation. Referring to Iran's major developments in the field of science and technology, he hoped that the two countries would initiate scientific and technological cooperation in the near future. As the ex-chairman (2001-2010) of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Prof. Myasnikovich, introduced their academy, its different sections and provided information on its big allocated budget for research.

Afterwards, Prof. Reza Davari Ardakani welcomed the guests and introduced the four academies of IR Iran working under the Presidency. He also gave a brief account on the departments and sections of the Academy of Sciences of IR Iran. He stressed that based on its aims, the Academy does not conduct research, however if it does, it will carry out research at the national and macro scales. In fact the Academy gives scientific advice to the government on science and technology policy making. Prof. Davari Ardakani added that the duties of the academies of Iran and Belarus are similar to each other and that they can have scientific cooperation.

The meeting continued with Dr. Sergei Rakhmanov's details on the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Prof. Hossein Namazi, secretary of the Academy also gave an account on the research projects, scientific activities, budget and the upcoming major programs of the Academy.

Prof. Saeed Sohrabpour, chairman of the Department of Engineering Sciences of the Academy, stated that the nature and pattern of the activities of our Academy is like those of the western academies of sciences. That is, our universities are engaged in conducting research projects, whereas our academy primarily provides scientific advice to the government and merely carries out national and macro research projects.

Regarding the cooperation of our academy with their counterparts in the world, Prof. Davari Ardakani stated that we have concluded MOU with numerous academies of the world. He also mentioned the names of the academies with which MOU had been signed. Prof Davari said that our academy is a member of IAP and AASSA.

Prof. Myasnikovich thanked the Academy and notified that the ambassador of Belarus in Tehran will submit a formal letter to the academy in which the proposed areas of cooperation between the two academies will be listed.
