A Bulgarian delegation headed by Prof. Georgi Valchev, Vice-Rector of Education, Sofia University met with Prof. Reza Davari Ardakani and a number of the authorities and fellows of the Academy on Wednesday, January 17th.

The other members of the Bulgarian delegation included Prof. Madlen Danova, Dean, Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, Sofia University; Prof. Ivo Panov, Head, Iranian Studies Department, Sofia University; Prof. Danail Danov, Professor, Faculty of Preschool and Primary School Education, Sofia University; Mr. Alireza Purmohammad, Professor, Iranian Studies Department, Sofia University and Executive Director, Center for Iran, the Balkans and Central European Studies; Ambassador Christo Polendakov and Mr. Jivko Kantchev, First Secretary, Science, Culture, Education and Sports.
At first, Prof. Reza Davari Ardakani welcomed the guests and briefly recounted the details of his visit to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and concluding a Memorandum of Understanding. He also referred to the existing differences in aims and organizational structure of the two academies and encouraged the development of cooperation between the universities of the two countries.
Then, Prof. Georgi Valchev, thanked the host for receiving the Bulgarian delegation and gave an account of the Sofia University, its activities and organizational structure.
Prof. Jafar Towfighi, in turn, provided the overall picture of the higher education system in Iran, its status in the world and presented statistical information on the achievements of the Iranian researchers in the academia worldwide.
Afterwards, Prof. Seyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad familiarized the audience with the development of theology in Iran after the Islamic Revolution.
The meeting continued with Prof. Hassan Zohoor's description on the structure and organizational chart of the Academy.
Prof. Ivo Panov detailed the background of the learning centers of Persian language at the universities of Bulgaria and hoped for the establishment of a Bulgarian language department in Iran in the near future.
After the meeting, the Bulgarian delegation visited the library of the Academy.
