Chaired by Prof. Davari Ardakani, the Scientific Council of the Academy sat for its 504th meeting on October 10th. The attendees consisted of Profs. Eslami, Sharifi Tehrani, Salehi, Moore (virtually), Nadalian, Namazi and Moztarzadeh.
At the beginning, Prof. Ali Akbar Salehi presented a report on the actions taken in the recent month in the vice-presidency for research and scientific and international relations, particularly with the elite residing abroad. Prof. Salehi stated that, “the Academy is trying to develop a roadmap for its activities and hopes to benefit from the views and suggestions of the Council members and scientific departments in this respect”. The Council members emphasized the development of scientific cooperation with the academies of sciences of the neighboring and Islamic countries, the launching of macro and strategic research projects by the Academy, and the collaboration of researchers and faculty members on the advancement of scientific and research programs of the Academy.
Following the approval of the previous meeting's minutes, the proposal to increase the number of the Academy fellows was proposed and after discussion and exchange of views, referred to the General Assembly for final approval. Then, the topic of the invitation of the Minister of Science, Research and Technology to the Academy and expression of concerns and problems of science and higher education of the country was raised and agreed upon.
The meeting continued with passing the extension of the associate fellow memberships of a number of associate fellows of the scientific departments of the Academy. This will be referred to the General Assembly for final approval. Also, the extension of the collaboration of five guest scholars with the Department of Engineering Sciences was approved for a further two-year term.
At the end, the agenda of the 127th meeting of the General Assembly was read and approved.
