Presided over by Prof. Davari Ardakani, the first meeting of the Foresight Council of the Academy in the new term was held semi-virtually on Sunday, November 20th, 2021. The attendees included Prof. Salehi, Vice President for Research and Deputy President, Prof. Moztarzadeh, Secretary of the Foresight Council, Prof. Mohaghegh Damad, Prof. Ahmadi, Prof. Nikbakht Borujeni, Prof. Moore, representatives of the scientific departments, Prof. Bahrami, Dr. Maknoon and a number of the authorities of the Academy.
At the beginning, Prof. Davari welcomed the guests and emphasized the need for future planning by the Academy.
Then, Prof. Moztarzadeh presented a detailed report on the objectives, job descriptions, actions taken and actions being implemented by the secretariat of the Foresight Council and the conventional methods of foresight in the developed countries. He stated that for foresight, we need accurate and reliable statistics and reports on the current state of science and technology. He further explained the suggestions of the secretariat of the Council regarding the decision making on the priorities and span of foresight in the Academy for discussion and exchange of views of the members.
Prof. Davari, referring to the issue raised by him in the previous meetings of the World Future Day that "we are our future", explained the planning procedure and the need for foresight and stressed that for foresight, we should start by recognizing the current situation. Prof. Salehi and Prof. Mohaghegh Damad also confirmed this view.
Afterwards, Prof. Bahrami, referring to the role of the Academy and the involvement of science and technology, suggested the council to issue a statement. Referring to the current historical period. Dr. Maknoon also pointed out the need to link the decision-making system and the knowledge system in this regard.
After discussing the issue by other professors and exchanging of views, it was decided to study and analyze the identification of the current status of science and technology in Iran.
The meeting continued with the proposal of Dr. Moztarzadeh for the full membership of Dr. Bahrami, Dr. Maknoon and Dr. Manouchehri in the Futurism Council was approved.
It was also decided to hold the foresight council meetings of the Academy on a monthly basis.
