Regarding the advisory view of the Scientific Council of the Department of Engineering Sciences of the Academy, Prof. Davari Ardakani has appointed Prof. Jafar Towfighi as the new chairman of the Department of Engineering Sciences for a two-year term. Prof. Davari Ardakani expressed his gratitude to Prof. Eslami, former chairman of the Department, for his efficient services during his term.

Born in 1955 in Tehran, Prof. Jafar Towfighi holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, Romania. He is currently a full professor at Tarbiat Modares University. Prof. Towfighi has been a fellow of the Academy since 2016. He was the chairman of the Division of Chemical Engineering, Department of Engineering Sciences of the Academy, for several terms. He was also the head of the working group for selecting prominent engineers, prominent engineering professors and prominent young engineering researchers, selected by the Academy.

Prof. Towfighi’s executive and academic positions include: Minister of Science, Research and Technology; Head of the Office for Technology Development and Innovation in Oil and Gas Industries; Secretary of Oil, Gas and Coal Industry, Technology and Innovation Development Headquarters, Vice-Presiden for Science and Technology; Senior Advisor to the Minister of Science, Research and Technology; Head of the Faculty of Energy, Sharif University of Technology; Chairman of the Higher Education Development Council; Chairman of the Higher Education Planning Council; Deputy Minister of Education; Head of the Institute for Research and Planning in Higher Education; Vice Chancellor of Tarbiat Modares University and Head of the Faculty of Engineering, Tarbiat Modares University.
