Presided over by Prof. Davari Ardakani, the 512th meeting of the Scientific Council of the Academy was held on Sunday, May 22nd. The attendees consisted of the secretary, vice president for research and deputy president, the chairmen of the scientific departments, planning consultant, and secretary of the Foresight Council of the Academy.

 

After approving the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council, a guest scholar proposal by the Department of Engineering Sciences of the Academy for a two-year term was set forth and approved.

 

The meeting continued with the letter of the director of the Islamic Parliament Research Center on the subject of upstream documents and approvals related to the field of basic sciences and also the expert report of the Center in this regard. After the exchange of views and considering that the Department of Basic Sciences has prepared an analytical report on the subject and has submitted it to the Center, it was decided that the Research Council of the Academy in collaboration with the Department of Basic Sciences would review and analyze the issues and prepare a response.

 

Then, the letter of the secretary general of the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association sent to the president of the Academy was read. The letter refers to the readiness of the Association to cooperate with the members of the Academy to conduct joint research work and support research projects and articles in areas related to tobacco. After the exchange of views, it was decided that the Vice-Presidency for Research of the Academy would raise the issue in a letter to the specialized departments and divisions of the Academy, so that the interested individuals in participating in the topics would be introduced to the Iranian Anti-Tobacco Association.

 

Afterwards, Prof. Semnanian, Planning Consultant, presented a report on the "Global Knowledge Index". In his speech, while presenting a report on the ranking systems in the world, he explained about the ranking of countries based on the global knowledge index and the criteria of this ranking. Prof. Semnanian also considered the report important from a political and scientific point of view. After discussion and exchange of views, it was decided that the vice-presidency for research of the Academy would appoint a workgroup that would firstly review the ranking report of Iran in the global knowledge index and secondly, based on the statistics and information available in the country, examine to what extent Iran's ranking in the global knowledge index has been evaluated correctly. The results provided by the workgroup will be made available to government officials, academics and the community if the Academy agrees.

 

Then, Prof. Faraji-Dana, secretary of the Academy, referred to the letter of the secretary general of the Supreme Council of Science, Research and Technology to the president of the Academy regarding the submission of the proposed issues of the Academy to the Council. After exchanging the views, it was decided that the departments of the Academy would submit their proposals to be sent to the Council by a letter from the president of the Academy.

 

The secretary of the Academy also presented a report on the workgroup on "Nomination and Divisions of the Country in the Ministry of the Interior" and the participation of the representative of the Academy in this workgroup. By Prof. Jalal Shayegan’s consent, he will be introduced as a representative of the Academy to participate in the workgroup.

 

At the end, Prof. Nadalian, Chairman of the Department of Veterinary Sciences, presented a report on the prevalence of monkeypox in some European and African countries. He pointed out the type of the disease and the ways of its spread and explained the measures taken to control and eradicate it.
