Presided over by Prof. Aref, the 26th meeting of the Commission for the Advancement of Mathematics was held at the Academy on Thursday, April 27.
The attendees consisted of Profs. Soltankhah, Faraji Dana, Towfighi, Toomanian, Sohrabpour Rejali, Vaezpour, Mohammadzadeh, Ghasemi Honari, and Rasekh.
After Prof. Aref’s welcoming speech, Prof. Toomanian expressed the important opinions and considerations of the Commission's secretariat regarding the promotion regulations, and each of the members expressed their opinions and views on the issues raised. It was decided to summarize the opinions in the form of a letter to be submitted to the Minister of Science, Research and Technology.
Then, there was an exchange of views regarding the invitation of the Minister of Science to the Academy to participate in the meeting of the Commission for the Advancement of Mathematics and the topics to be discussed in that meeting. It was decided that the major issues of the Commission, such as analysis of higher education, improving the quality of postgraduate courses, several key clauses of the regulations on promotion, livelihood of professors and faculty members of universities, especially young people, the problems of scientific associations and a closer and more serious relationship between universities and industry would be summarized and proposed in that meeting.
The meeting continued with discussion on the important considerations and suggestions raised in the meetings of the Academy's Mathematics Promotion Commission regarding the country's educational issues. It was decided that after the appointment of the Minister of Education, he would be invited to one of the Commission’s meetings.
