The Public Council Meeting of the Department of Engineering Sciences of the Academy was held semi-virtually by the Division of Chemical Engineering of the Department on Wednesday, June 21st. Prof. Jafar Towfighi, chairman of the Department, presided over the meeting. A number of fellows, associate fellows and guest scholars of the scientific departments of the Academy as well as professors of universities and various centres and organizations participated in the meeting.

 

At first, Prof. Abbas Shojaosadati, associate fellow of the Academy and professor of Tarbiat Modares University, delivered a speech on "Biotechnology Development in the World." The outlines of his speech were as follows:

- The nature of biotechnology
- History of biotechnology
- Change of attitude in the last century
- Introduction to systems biology
- Biotechnology fields
- Application of biotechnology in medicine
- Economic effect
- Treatment approach in the future

In the second part of the meeting, Prof. Manouchehr Vosoughi, associate fellow of the Academy and professor of Sharif University of Technology, presented his speech on the "Development Process of Biotechnology in Iran". The outlines of his speech were as follows:

- Biotechnology, the forerunner of the future
- The importance of biotechnology
- What is the position and rank of biotechnology in Iran compared to the leading countries of the world?
- Manpower required to achieve these technologies
- Biotechnology educational and research centers in Iran
- Biotechnology industrial centers in Iran
- Market Study

 

Then, Dr. Ahmad Fazeli, an entrepreneur in the field of biotechnology, presented a report of a successful entrepreneur in the field of biotechnology, process of several pharmaceutical companies in Iran from the beginning, establishing factories, pharmaceutical production lines, and products released to the market.

 

Finally, the attendees expressed their views and suggestions and the lecturers answered to the questions posed to them.
