Presided over by Prof. Aref, the 28th meeting of the Commission for the Advancement of Mathematics was held semi-virtually at the Academy on Thursday, July20th.

 

The attendees consisted of Profs. Soltankhah, Faraji Dana, Towfighi, Jabbehdar Maralani, Mohammadzade, Rejali, Ghasemi Honari, Rafipoor and Abdollahi. 

 

At first, Prof. Aref welcomed the audience and emphasized the need to address the country's major mathematical problems. Prof. Rejali and Prof. Mohammadzadeh also delivered short speeches.

 

Then, the letter of the Secretary of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution to the Academy regarding the reduction in the number of mathematics and physics candidates in the National University Entrance Exam was set forth.  It was decided that the Secretariat of the Commission prepare a report considering the studies which have been done in this regard and the opinions raised especially in the Seminar of Mathematical Sciences and Challenges and submit it to the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution by the Academy

 

At the end of the meeting, it was decided that the issues raised in the previous meeting of the Commission with the Minister of Science to be followed up with Prof. Peyman Salehi, Deputy Minister of Research, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, in the next meeting of the Commission.
