Chaired by Prof. Mokhber Dezfouli, the 144th meeting of the General Assembly of the Academy was held on Thursday, February 27th with the presence of Prof. Mohammad Reza Aref, First Vice President, as well as fellows of the Academy.
At first, Prof. Mokhber Dezfouli, welcomed the attendees and congratulated Prof. Gholam Reza Aavani for receiving the Special Academic Award of the 42nd Book of the Year Awards of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Then, he congratulated the election of Prof. Saeed Sohrabpour as the special winner of the Khwarizmi International Award (KIA) and Prof. Faramarz Rafipoor as the winner of the Farabi International Award, the appointment of Prof. Rasoul Jafarian as the head of the University of Tehran Central Library, the election of Prof. Mohammad Reza Aref as a Distinguished Professor, the election of Prof. Mohammad Abdol Ahad as the winner of the innovation section of the KIA and the winner of the inventor of the Health Technology Committee. He also appreciated the efforts of Prof. Giti Karim and Prof. Ali Akbar Salehi for publishing the Encyclopedia of the Environment of Iran.
Afterwards, Prof. Mokhber Dezfouli referred to the First Vice President's emphasis on holding joint meetings between the Academies and the government, and stressed the demand of the Academy to play a role in solving the country's problems. He pointed to the Academy's various activities this year, including paying attention to the presence of young elites and paving the way for young scientists to become members of the Academy.
Prof. Mokhber Dezfouli also pointed to the interest of young elites in the conference held on Planting for the Future. In his view, there is a need to hold quarterly meetings on different topics along with scientific and specialized lectures by members in various fields and orientations in the presence of young elites. He noted that the continuous connection with young scientists and scientific departments of the Academy would be established in this way.
Then, the proposal of the fellow memberships of Prof. Tahereh Kaghazchi, Professor of Chemical Engineering, Amirkabir University of Technology; Prof. Javad Salehi, Professor of Electrical Engineering, Sharif University of Technology; and Prof. Mohammad Reza Shams Ardekani, Professor of Pharmacognosy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, were raised. The chairmen of the relevant scientific departments introduced them and described their activities, and their memberships were approved by a majority of votes.
Finally, the proposal of associate memberships of the following professors at the Academy for a four-year term were presented, discussed, decided upon and approved by a majority of written votes:
